Joint Entrance Examination Main (JEE Main)-: It is the first stage of a 2-stage joint entrance examination. It is conducted for admission to all the NITs and various state-level engineering colleges at the undergraduate level. The exam is of 3 hours and is conducted online.
Joint Entrance Examination (Advanced): It is conducted for admission to all the IITs and can only be taken by students qualifying the first stage, i.e. JEE Main. Questions from Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics are asked in a span of 6 hours.
Several state-level examinations like WBJEE (for west Bengal), MHT CET (for Maharashtra): Conducted by the State Board for admissions into UG and PG courses in colleges of their state.
GATE: Graduate Aptitude Test for Engineering is conducted jointly by IITs and IISc for admission to several colleges at postgraduate level.
UGC/ CSIR (JRF)/ NET/ SET/ SLET is conducted for admission to doctoral programs in various private universities, conducted by the universities themselves.

Computer science engineering (CSE) is all about coding and programming. ECE has a blend of physics, electrical components, electronics and programming. In Electronics and Communication Engineering (ECE), only a little programming is involved. The deciding factor should primarily be your inclination towards either of physics or programming. In addition, as an ECE graduate, you can take up a job in both software industry as well as the telecom industry, unlike the CSE graduates who can land up a job only in the former.

JEE is one of the toughest exams that is conducted in the country.. Out of a pool of almost 2 lakh applicants every year, only 10,000 are selected. In order to successfully ace the exam, you need to have the right strategy and good guidance. The JEE Main is of 3 hours and usually 360 marks. The total marks keep changing, but the time duration remains the same. JEE Advanced has 2 papers over two different sittings of 3 hours each.
