Eligibility criteria for Manufacturing Engineering Course at both UG and PG
1. In order to pursue B. Tech or BS / BE in Manufacturing Engineering
Candidates must be a 10+2 passed student with a minimum of 50% overall marks.
Candidates with a science background and with Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics are given more priority.
2. For M. Tech or MS / ME in Manufacturing Engineering
Candidates must have passed their B. Tech or BS / BE degree in Manufacturing Engineering or any relevant field with a minimum of 60 per cent overall marks.
3. For pursuing PhD in Manufacturing Engineering
Candidates must have passed their M. Tech or MS / ME degree in Manufacturing Engineering or any relevant field with a minimum of 70 per cent overall marks.
4. In order to pursue Diploma in Manufacturing Engineering
Candidate with a science background who have passed 10+2 can go apply
For a bachelor’s degree, you have to pursue either BS / BE in Manufacturing Engineering or B. Tech in Manufacturing Engineering. After that, for higher studies, you can go for MS / ME or M. Tech and PhD in Manufacturing Engineering. Now, to get into a public university like IITs, NITs or any other university under the state government, to pursue your bachelor’s degree in Manufacturing Engineering, these are some of the entrance exams to look out for:
JEE Main: JEE Main is held twice every year and is given by lakhs of students throughout the entire country. If one qualifies in this exam, then they will have a high chance of getting into an NIT or a good university under state government or any other relevant university, be it public or private.
JEE Advanced: JEE Advanced is held every year and is given by those students who qualify JEE Mains. Qualifying this exam will earn one a spot in one of the top IIT or NIT in the country.
GATE: GATE is given by those students who have completed their bachelor’s degree and is thinking about pursuing their master’s degree. Qualifying this exam can earn them a spot in IITs, NITs or any other government institute, according to the scorecard.

Main scope for your field will be industries , oil industry manufacturing industries so on , still there are also students placed in IT companies after their bachelors degree through campus placements , and if they have good competitive coding skills they can easily get into technology / IT irrespective of the course they studied still , if you want a career in IT / technology it would be advised to take CS ( computer Science ) , for you bachelors degree so that you can easily climb the ladders of your career

At first congratulations on the start of your journey at Vellore Institute of technology. Yes you can change your branch from mechanical engineering to Information technology or any others through the student program migration window.
This window is available after the end of first and second semesters respectively any student eligible for it can apply for it by filling up the form available at the institution itself. The number of transfers is 2 percent of the total seats available in the program. You will get an email after the first semester explaining the complete procedure.
Note- You will need a CGPA of 8.5 and even higher to be able to complete migration as there is tough competition in that window and transfers are merit based.
