Aliah University was set up by Warren Hastings in New Town, Kolkata in 1780 and thus forms one of the oldest institutes in the country. It was known previously as the Calcutta Madrasah or the Mohammedan College of Calcutta. It was in 2008 that this institute was converted into a university and has offered many undergraduates, postgraduate and doctoral courses since then. The university offers a plethora of course options namely arts, science, technology, nursing, Islamic Theology, and engineering to name a few. It is essentially a state university which is accredited the AA+ grade by the NAAC(National Assessment and Accreditation Council) and is also affiliated to the UGC. The Aliah University spans across an area of 20 acres and has 200 faculty members that support the 5800 student enrollments in the university. The university also offers amazing placement opportunities to the students. For this, it has established a Training and Placement cell that addresses issues of students in this regard. 

Step 1: The institute’s Placement Cell talks to companies and asks them about their requirements for eligible candidates. The companies have to fill out forms to specify the candidates they prefer, the salary packages that they offer and the job requirements.

Step 2: The Training and Placement cell holds many pre-placement talks with the students and informs them about the requirements of each firm. Accordingly, the students who are interested and eligible fill out forms. The training and Placement cell also holds many mock tests and mock interviews to prepare the students.

Step 3: The institute then calls the companies for on-campus placements. The resumes and other important documents of the students are verified and kept. When the company is on-campus, the students have to first go through a written test that consists of aptitude and technical questions.

Step 4: On clearance of the written tests, the students have to appear for group discussions that check the students’ personality and confidence. The students that clear the group discussion level are invited for a personal interview with the HR and other members of the interviewing committee for final selection.

Step 5: If a student clears the personal interview, he/she is sent an offer letter with the information about his/her role in the firm and other such specifications. The student can further accept or reject the offer letter.
