Stella Maris College Chennai was founded in 1947 by the Society of the Franciscan Missionaries of Mary. Stella Maris College is a Catholic minority college of higher education for women. On August 15th 1947, Stella Maris College was established in a small one storey building with a bunch of students in Santhome, Mylapore. Later in 1960, the college was relocated to its present campus ‘The Cloisters’ on Cathedral Road, Chennai. Stella Maris College is an autonomous college affiliated with the University of Madras. Stella Maris College is recognised as an ‘A’ Grade college by National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC). Stella Maris College aims to promote education and empower women to face the challenges of life with courage. In 2021, Stella Maris College has been ranked 58th in the college category by the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) while, in 2020, the college was ranked at 64th in the same category.

Stella Maris College infrastructure is spread across 19.5 acres of land in the heart of Chennai and has modern classrooms available with audiovisual facilities. Stella Maris College offers courses at UG, PG, MPhil and PhD level. Stella Maris College offers postgraduate diploma courses to the students. Stella Maris College Clubs, Societies and Committee

Anubhuti Club

The Hindi Club of Stella Maris College aims to bring forth the creativity and talent of both Hindi and Non-Hindi students. The club's objective is to provide a platform for students from different cultural backgrounds to interact, plan programmes to promote Hindi as a language.

Classical Dance Club

The club offers a sense of pride, appreciation and involves students learning various Indian classical dance forms. 

Dramatics Club

The Dramatic Club provides a space for creative students to showcase their talent both on-stage and off-stage. The club's objective is to explore hidden talents by creating an environment for them with the help of workshops and educating students about the theatre world. 

Enviro Club 

The club is responsible for organising various activities for protecting flora & fauna, to create awareness amongst the students and other staff to respect and guard the environmental surroundings.

Event Management Club

The club’s primary focus is to work in collaboration with the students union, to organise and manage all events of Stella Maris College.

Light Music Club

A team of students who have exceptional skills in music, singing, instruments and percussion. The club participates in all cultural events of Stella Maris College and other events outside of the college.

Mime & Street Theatre Club

The club was established to promote different forms of theatre and revive other art forms. The club provides training to students to understand techniques and skills and to encourage students to participate in different competitions and events.

Photography Club

The club aims to document every event of Stella Maris College in both still and video format. The club organises workshops, photo walks, exhibitions and encourages students to participate in photography competitions.

Quiz, Debate and Current Affairs

The club organises events and competitions related to current affairs, debate and quiz. The club aims to motivate students to acquire general knowledge, critical thinking and public speaking.

Rotaract Club

The club provides services to the community, professional and international service are both within and outside Stella Maris College. The club aims to improve and change the perspective of society. 

Kalakriti - Sanskrit Club

The club aims to encourage students to learn the Sanskrit language and encourage students to take part in cultural events and co-curricular activities that showcase students' talents in Sanskrit.

UNICEF on Campus Club

The motto of this club “Voice for the voiceless”, club works to create awareness for child rights issues through various programmes, to bring a change in society.

Western Dance Club

The objective of this club is to provide a platform to the students who have talent and interest in western dance and showcase their talent on stage. The club provides training to the students which improve their skills as dancers. 

Castella - Western Music Club

Students of this club participate in various cultural activities at Stella Maris College. The students who have skills in western music or have an interest in learning are welcome to join this club.

Stella Maris College Facilities and Infrastructure

Stella Maris College has an excellent infrastructure that is spread across 19.5 acres of land and has spacious classrooms with modern facilities. Stella Maris College infrastructure includes a library that has a vast collection of books and journals and other resources for different subjects. The library has a support system that enables students to gather the knowledge for research work of the following course. Stella Maris College auditorium hosts all the cultural and academic events of the college. Hostel and sports facilities are also available for the students. The rules and regulations are laid down for the students to become more mature and responsible citizens in future and able to use freedom wisely and at the same time become self-disciplined. Stella Maris College facilities include a canteen, laboratories for different departments, transport and parking facility and medical facility for its students.

Stella Maris College Courses

Stella Maris College offers courses in all three streams- Arts, Commerce and Science in UG and PG level. Stella Maris College courses in the undergraduate programme are BA, BCom, BBA, BCA, BSc, BVoc. In the post-graduate programme, MA, MCom, MSc, MCA courses are offered. Stella Maris College offers a postgraduate diploma course and different subjects for MPhil and  PhD programmes.

Stella Maris College Admissions

The college admission in the UG programme will be merit-based and there will be an entrance examination conducted by the Stella Maris College admission team for some specific courses in the UG programme such as BA English and BVA course. Stella Maris College conducts entrance examination for all the course offered at the PG level. Stella Maris College offers a post-graduation diploma in Computer Science and different subjects are offered in MPhil and PhD programmes. 

For Stella Maris College admissions in the UG/PG programme, students have to register and fill up Stella Maris College application form for the desired course. For MPhil and PhD programmes, students are advised to visit the University of Madras website and follow the procedure for admission in Stella Maris College  MPhil and PhD programmes.

Stella Maris College Admission Procedure for UG Programme (Except for BA English and BVA Course)

• Candidates have to register on the Stella Maris College admission portal.

• Admission to the UG porgramme will be based on merit.

• Based on the marks secured in 10+2, students will get selected for the further selection process.

• Next candidates have to take part in the counselling process of Stella Maris College. 

• Final admission will be offered to the candidates based on the marks secured in 10+2, participation in the counselling process, document verification and fee payment for the desired course in the Stella Maris College UG programme.

Stella Maris College Admission Procedure for BA English and BVA Course

• Candidates have to register and fill up the Stella Maris College application form for the following course.

• Next, candidates have to give an entrance test for the BA English course. For the BVA course, candidates have to give an aptitude test in drawing/designing.

• Based on the marks secured in the entrance/aptitude test, candidates will be selected and proceed further for the selection process.

• Candidates have to visit Stella Maris College for a personal interview conducted by the Stella Maris College admission team.

• Admission will be offered on the basis of marks secured in the entrance test, performance in the personal interview, document verification and fee payment for the BA English or BVA course.

Stella Maris College Admission Procedure for PG Programme

• Candidates have to register on the Stella Maris College admission portal.

• Candidates have to give an entrance test conducted by the Stella Maris College admission team.

• Based on the marks secured in the entrance test, a provisional list of selected candidates will be prepared and uploaded on the Stella Maris College admissions portal.

• Next candidates have to visit Stella Maris College for a personal interview conducted by the Stella Maris College admission team.

• The final admission will be given to the candidates on the basis of marks obtained in the entrance/aptitude test, performance in the personal interview, document verification by the Stella Maris College administration and fee payment for the desired course in the Stella Maris College PG programme.
