    About Stella Maris College, Chennai

    Stella Maris College Chennai was founded in 1947 by the Society of the Franciscan Missionaries of Mary. Stella Maris College is a Catholic minority college of higher education for women. On August 15th 1947, Stella Maris College was established in a small one storey building with a bunch of students in Santhome, Mylapore. Later in 1960, the college was relocated to its present campus ‘The Cloisters’ on Cathedral Road, Chennai. Stella Maris College is an autonomous college affiliated with the University of Madras. Stella Maris College is recognised as an ‘A’ Grade college by National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC). Stella Maris College aims to promote education and empower women to face the challenges of life with courage. In 2021, Stella Maris College has been ranked 58th in the college category by the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) while, in 2020, the college was ranked at 64th in the same category.

    Stella Maris College infrastructure is spread across 19.5 acres of land in the heart of Chennai and has modern classrooms available with audiovisual facilities.     Stella Maris College Clubs, Societies and Committee

    Anubhuti Club

    The Hindi Club of Stella Maris College aims to bring forth the creativity and talent of both Hindi and Non-Hindi students. The club's objective is to provide a platform for students from different cultural backgrounds to interact, plan programmes to promote Hindi as a language.

    Classical Dance Club

    The club offers a sense of pride, appreciation and involves students learning various Indian classical dance forms. 

    Dramatics Club

    The Dramatic Club provides a space for creative students to showcase their talent both on-stage and off-stage. The club's objective is to explore hidden talents by creating an environment for them with the help of workshops and educating students about the theatre world. 

    Enviro Club

    Stella Maris College Facilities and Infrastructure

    Stella Maris College has an excellent infrastructure that is spread across 19.5 acres of land and has spacious classrooms with modern facilities. Stella Maris College infrastructure includes a library that has a vast collection of books and journals and other resources for different subjects. The library has a support system that enables students to gather the knowledge for research work of the following course. Stella Maris College auditorium hosts all the cultural and academic events of the college. Hostel and sports facilities are also available for the students.     The campus is filled with greenery. The classrooms are very well equipped, spacious and bright and so are the labs. Hostels have adequate facilities and the mess food is not that great but okay. Canteen food is better.

    The college has good infrastructure and campus maintenance is clean and pleasant. The classrooms are provided with intercom speakers, black boards , shelves and comfortable seaters. It also has basketball court ,tennis court and a play ground for NCC students. the college has 5 hostels within the campus , with hygienic food provision.

    Quite good,the college infrastructure can be improved.A lot of new courses are being constantly included in the curriculum.Mnay new blocks are being constructed to accomodate the growing number of students joining for various courses.The college does not have AC's and smart boards etc,but we do have projectors for usage during lectures and presentations.The library is spacious and has a net centre and free wifi as well.The place is clean and the canteen food is decent.
